Project Background
Got Wood? was created as a capstone project for an intensive, two-day mobile learning design workshop completed during my time at PPD. Unlike my enterprise training projects, this course was not tied to a corporate curriculum, but was designed as a creative challenge to demonstrate responsive design principles, interaction design, and mobile-first thinking.
Participants were asked to design a short tutorial based on a real-life activity. Living in Montana and heating my home with a wood-burning stove, safe and effective firewood handling felt like a natural (and memorable) topic. The playful title is a nod to the classic “Got Milk?” advertising campaigns that were widely recognized at the time.
The workshop was attended by the full Enterprise Learning Development team. When a single project was selected to showcase the department’s creativity and technical capability to executive leadership, Got Wood? was chosen as the spotlight example.
The Goal
Design a mobile-first, fully responsive learning experience that:
-
Works seamlessly across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices
-
Demonstrates interactive design without relying on templates
-
Uses visual theming and motion intentionally to support engagement
-
Balances instructional clarity with a light, approachable tone
Design and Development Approach
This project was built entirely from a blank slide with no templates used. The experience emphasizes responsiveness, interaction, and visual cohesion while remaining accessible on any device.

Key design and development elements include:
-
Custom interface, navigation, and button design
-
Mobile-first layout decisions optimized for touch interaction
-
Wood-themed typography, textures, and backgrounds to reinforce the concept
-
Animations, hover effects, and trigger-based state changes
-
Custom graphics created specifically for the course
-
Embedded YouTube video tutorials integrated into the flow of learning
While the topic is intentionally playful, the design decisions reflect real-world responsive learning considerations, such as screen size constraints, touch targets, visual hierarchy, and performance across devices.
Why This Project Matters
Got Wood? represents a different side of my work—one that highlights creativity, experimentation, and design fluency outside of formal corporate training. It demonstrates how thoughtful interaction design and responsive principles can turn even an everyday task into an engaging learning experience.
